Back in the days of S40, a very common way to do better buttons was to fool the theme with transparent png as a button background and draw a better button into the wallpaper itself. It gave more liberty for area/ shadows etc. Even S60 clocks were done that way. With the current Carbide so restrictive and many themes having problems in installation I decided to go it again.

But man Nokia seriously need some designers... it is not only doing poorly in its own themes but also not adhering to the basic principles of interface designing. The first rule is that buttons and elements should not move their position.... it hampers the user from developing spinal memory for the buttons. Apparently nokia designers are too crappy to keep to it ..... so the Dialler/Phonebook button of the home screen move down by 5-6 pixels when the home screen them changes from basic to Shortcut bar and again to Contact bar... the reason for this or the philosophy completely beats me.

So the only way to get around was to make three different versions for three home screen....and here they are. Also uploaded the psd. Just put in any wallpaper you like and you are done. Enjoy
